I’m highly agitated and demotivated after reading Financial Times today. I also wonder why do they always try to come out with some crazy media news. For example, look at this:

“More than 1m jobs to go in UK”

Sensational news; made headlines. It was made sure that 1million got highlighted in bold! FT wanted to ring an alarm before the big shakeout. But I hate this sensational journalism because they are irresponsible as well. They were quick to come out with bombing figures, before their competitors could, but they didn’t bother to find out why this is happening! The article meekly talks about the fall of industrial outputs and rise in unemployment. But is it not irresponsible to just do sensational journalism?

Big questions on every one’s face:

1. Will I get a job?

2. Will I survive in this job scenario?

These questions are creating mental blocks. Personally, it gives me a feeling of a long dark tunnel with no hopes. Questions in my head:

1. Won’t the top management find it easier to fire employees now?

This kind of news cushions management to say: Our business is not doing well. You’re fired. It’s an easy escape and BAD NEWS works in their favour. Few good examples what I could find:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/mar/04/financial-times-staff-marjorie-scardino

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/job-cuts-on-cards-after-ft-loses-pound15m-588297.html

I wonder if that’s the case, FT will come out with another headline pretty soon and this time its employess may not have the opportunity to express themselves as their jobs are already in danger!

2. Will those 1m jobs ever come back?

The figure is so huge that it demotivates everyone right from top to bottom. Who will fill the void now?

3. What more can an employee do?

Instead of holding tight in rough times, people may loose trust. They’ll live in fear. Their output may go down. Buzz in their heads may chase them like shadows!

Some time back I had written about job cuts on my blog- Hopes Alive. But this time I can’t say why media acted irresponsibly. Unfortunately, FT is losing it’s edge and my fellow mates captured the problem under tag line “media analysis” in their presentation today. Why are people giving shallow news? If news is all about WHAT and not WHY, I believe the information is incomplete.

MEDIA is acting crazy and I’ll stick to my words: HOPES ALIVE. Look for opportunities. Use all prompts. Find means to leverage your power of information and use your instincts very well. Get rid of the old rust! Get rid of fears..

Good Luck
