I never liked insects and original pics of bees make me go sick. No hard feelings for animal-lovers, but I can’t give up on my eerie feelings.
Though, bees are “Not-so-Wanted” creatures for me, researchers at MIT, Massachusetts, think they are giving hopes for new ways on networking. Weird..But read on!
I came across this latest Harvard Business Review article called ‘How Social Networks Network Best‘. After conducting an empirical study in an organization, they analyzed that use of Web2.0 tools and Wikis increased productivity of their colleagues by 7%. Wow! people are getting productive after taking up Web2.0. But hang on..

In the same organisation, however, the employees with most cohesive face-to-face networks were 30% more productive. Boo!

Q. What’s happening?
A. Take this allegory. Look at bees- closely swerving and networking for only one goal, i.e. to locate the hive. Also, HBR claimed that bees have guided human beings with elegant approaches to group decision making. I have no clue how true this report is, other than forcefully motivating team members in a rigid society and where human beings always try to differentiate themselves. But then theory X& theoryY exist together and it is difficult to say a complete ‘yes’ or ‘no’ at times. But right now it looks like ‘B theory’ won the game by gaining 23% extra advantage.

Q. How does that help?
A. It definitely does! Web is becoming part of our daily lives. Everytime I need info I don’t go to friend next door or meet my boss in next cabin! He’ll fire me on a stupid question.

So who’s better? ‘Mr. B’ didn’t win the battle against my fear. The reason I’m arguing on this is because ‘technology’ was born out of human ‘needs’ and it changed our ‘culture’ at the same time, as explained by Orlikowski in 90’s, another MITian! I believe that new culture will develop to take care of this 23% advantage and the fire set by Web2.0 will definitely take the lead. It’s just a matter of time now.

Q. Gosh. Two confusing theories by MITians; which one to believe?
A. Let’s meet up over coffee and discuss in person so that I can understand the idea behind 30% lead!
